Soil samples can be taken in wet soil. The moisture level in your soil will not affect soil test results, however, when sampling wet soil there are some aspects to consider.
- Wet soil can affect the consistency of the collection depth of your soil sample core.
-
- The core needs to be a consistent depth for each one collected across the sample area.
- If cores are fluctuating in depth/length, wait for soil to dry a bit if possible, or discard ones that are not the same.
-
-
- CLOSE IS OK, within an inch or so is totally fine!
-
-
-
- Wet soil is difficult to composite/ mix together which is an important step in the sampling process.
-
- If wet soils have been successfully collected, they can be allowed to air-dry for a day so they can be better mixed together/ composited.
